Community Policing

The Southborough Police Department is committed to the tenets of Community Policing and ascribes to Sir Robert Peel's belief that "The police are the community and the community are the police." To that end, the Department has developed many initiatives designed to mitigate crime and improve the quality of life for the residents of Southborough.

• Consider that the Southborough Police Department reaches out to the community in the following ways:
• Has a dedicated School Resource Officer (SRO)
• Has a Senior Resource/Elderly Affairs Officer
• Has five Business Resource Officers assigned to five areas of the community
• Inspect and install Child Safety Seats by appointment
• Host winter youth basketball open gym throughout the winter months
• Provide a Junior Police Academy every July for 30+ teenagers
• Hosts seminars with information on Crime Prevention
• Provides Child fingerprinting at Heritage Day Event
• Holds a Bucket Drive for non-profits that provide financial assistance to families fighting cancer
• Has a dedicated DARE program for fifth-grade students
• Provides funeral escorts upon request (manpower permitting)
• Provides the public with Bicycle Safety tips
• Offers RAD classes for both women (RAD) and kids (RAD kids)
• Participates in Community Read Day in the public schools
• Home Alone program
• Provides talks and tours of the Police Station for Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Daisies

Community policing also involves the residents of the Town, letting us know what problems may exist in your neighborhood. From house breaks to traffic concerns, different neighborhoods may have different issues. We encourage our residents to contact the police department to let us know what they are. "If you see something, say something."
